000 guitar build - fretboard extension prep

I won't lie... This step was horrifying.

In order for the fretboard extension to have a clean surface to glue to, the finish in that area has to be removed.

Enter chemical stripper.

I wanted to see exactly how this stuff worked so I started with a tiny patch well inside of the area where the fretboard would eventually go.

To start, the finish was scored along the line of where it was to be removed. Then the remaining area was masked off. Stripper applied with a small brush. Then scraped off with a chisel held vertically. Finally neutralized with water and dried off.

Having done it once in the small area, I repeated using the actual perimeter of the fretboard extension. The neck was temporarily bolted on to accurately score the finish.
