The sides were a bit more trouble. I tried various approaches that did not handle the excess glue squeeze out very well.
Then I discovered that an aggressive grit sandpaper did a good job, but in an unusual way. The friction from the sandpaper got the glue hot, which made it pill up and just wipe off.
Unfortunately when it gets hot enough to pill up, it is hot enough to melt your thumb, so I called it quits for the night.
There's also a pic of the butt graft (thanks to Freeman I now know this is not something you need after being gored by a bull). Just a plain wedge... Nothing fancy.
