Uke build 0.1 - Tools

I went tool shopping today. It wasn't as expensive as I thought, and I think I have the majority of what I need now.

I picked up the following:
  • a set of 4 chisels
  • a 10 piece file set (6 files, 2 rasps, 2 handles)
  • a small miter box & mini hacksaw set
  • an aluminum yard stick (instructions called for an 18" steel rule, but this was a lot cheaper)
  • a small hand plane
  • a two headed mallet (plastic/rubber)
  • a set of 32 clamps (4 bar clamps and the rest spring clamps)
  • 2 large C clamps
  • a set of saw horses (to make a work table out of)
  • set of letter and number punches
  • a corded drill (my cordless one doesn't hold a charge anymore)
I think that's it. Ok, so I didn't really need the set of letter and number punches, but I thought it would be cool to stamp the model and serial numbers into the neck block. Yes, I'm afraid I'm a bit of a dork.

I stuck with house brand tools instead of pricier name brand ones, and thanks to a Father's Day sale (all hand tools on sale) I got it all for a bit under $100, including tax. Not bad, methinks.
