A small turnbuckle is used to stretch things out a bit to help the sides match the template. Not much pressure here... Maybe a mm or two of stretch.

In practicing the dry clamping (not pictured), I found that I needed to pre-tie some loops in the ends of my rubber bands to help tie things off more quickly.

The directions called for trimming the top down to be closer to matching the template first (with wiggle room left over), but it was pretty close to start with, so I skipped this step. We'll see if that was a good idea or not later I suppose.
For the installation of the top, a small bead of titebond was run around the top lip of the sides, and the top placed, well, on top. It skates around on the wet glue freely, so you have plenty of opportunity to line things up on center before applying the rubber bands.
Once happy with placement, the rubber bands go on to clamp things in place. Zig-zag across the top to get good even pressure.
