This episode is sanding the sides flush. The uke is so small, I just taped down a sheet of sandpaper to my work table and used that. On a larger instrument, a real sanding block would probably be needed.
The sides are sanded so that everything is flush and in the same plane. This makes for a good contact surface for the top and back to be attached.
I didn't sand it while in the jig. That's just where I put it when I'm not working on it.
