Uke build 2.1 - planing the sides

This session is planing down the sides to match the back contour.

This is accomplished with a small hand plane.

Yes, I wear gloves when I touch unfinished wood (or what will show in the final product anyway). I get sweaty hands when doing any detail stuff like this. There is a ceiling in mom and dad's screen porch with a gazillion fingerprints as proof. ;^)

It's easy to get impatient planing down the sides. Think Tortise and Hare. The Tortise gets a nicely planed side. The Hare gets kindling.

Wound up with a nice pile of mahogany shavings. I'll save these in case I need some mahogany dust to mix with epoxy. I'll have to figure out how to convert the shavings into dust, but that's a problem for another day. I stopped to collect the shavings just before I got to the linings. That way there isn't any glue and spruce (or pine or whatever the linings are made of) in the mix.
